Today, our client, Xilas Medical, announced that it has become a sponsor of the International Diabetes Federation’s World Diabetes Day scheduled for November 14, 2005.
World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign of the diabetes world and is organized by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and supported by the World Health Organization. It was first introduced in 1991 in response to concern over the escalating incidence of diabetes around the world. Since then, it has grown in popularity and now brings together more than 350 million people around the world including opinion leaders, health-care professionals, people with diabetes, and the general public.
Xilas has developed, and is now shipping a family of products that diabetic patients and their doctors can use to manage the devastating, life threatening impact of diabetes related foot ulceration. The company’s products address three key areas that affect foot complications for the diabetic patient: temperature measurement, nerve damage assessment or neuropathy, and friction reduction.
According to the IDF, it is estimated that up to 70% of all lower-limb amputations are related to diabetes. Most of these amputations can be avoided through targeted prevention and improved care.
This is a very good cause and a great opportunity to tie our client’s technology and product into a worldwide effort to eradicate this horrible disease.
