This week in San Antonio, 1,200 Jewish teens, ages 13 to 16, along with parents, support staff and coaches from around the U.S. and abroad have gathered to compete in a week of athletic competitions known as The JCC Maccabi Games®. Our firm is a sponsor of the event and acted as a media relations consultant.
On the field, athletes are competing in basketball, baseball, bowling, dance, golf, soccer, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, volleyball and more. And off the field the excitement continues with trading T-shirts, pins, and uniforms. Evening social activities, including host family night, parties, and dances encourage interaction among the athletes.
The JCC Maccabi Games® will have positive financial and cultural impacts on our community. Tourism dollars will be generated that will benefit our local restaurants, hotels and shops. San Antonio’s River Walk, local attractions and historic landmarks will be showcased to thousands of visitors from scores of delegations from around the world.
The event will unify a community of volunteers, parents and athletes. Local teens will have many opportunities to assume active leadership roles. Local agencies will benefit from the service work done during the “Day of Caring/Day of Sharing,” a day of community service performed by Games athletes and coaches.
I have had the pleasure to host three great kids from the Long Beach, CA area who stayed at our home.
