Israel’s Chief Scientist, Avi Hasson, Turns Science into Companies

Avi Hasson has the job of always looking ever so slightly ahead,  and keeping Israel’s innovation economy moving forward.  His job is to turn science into companies….

As Chief Scientist for the State of Israel’s newly rebranded Ministry of The Economy, Avi spends at least one day a week visiting incubators and accelerators all over the country.

Avi spent ten years prior to his appointment, as a general partner at Gemini Israel Funds, one of Israel’s top tier Venture Capital firms with a focus on  communications, storage and consumer electronic sectors.

Prior to his role at  Gemini, Avi spent a decade in at  companies, such as ECI Telecom, ECtel and Tadiran Systems, where he fulfilled several duties in the fields of marketing, business development and consulting. His work there involved operations such as market and technology research and analysis, together with supervision of R&D activities as well as product definition and specification (ECI Telecom); designing and redirecting the company (ECtel) towards Telecom Operation Support Systems as well as managing this company’s first product in this area—a Fraud Management System.

When I was hosted by the hiCenter Entrepreneur Campus in Haifa, Avi was also visiting and I had a chance to briefly interview him.
