The more I travel, the more I have to rely on Wi-Fi. Most of the hotels I stay at have free Wi-Fi. Marriott is especially good about this, in all of their brands. According to Pyramid Research, more than 6,000 hotels worldwide are Wi-Fi enabled up from about 2,500 in 2003. If you need to find a hotel with Wi-Fi, you can rely on travel blog, www.hotelchatter.com to find one.
Last week in New York, my hotel did not have Wi-Fi, but there was a Starbucks down the street so it really was not a problem. And in a client meeting in Long Island, we sat a diner over breakfast, but quickly departed to a Starbucks down the street to log on. More restaurants would be wise to install free Wi-Fi to keep their customers staying put, and spending more money. Starbucks gets this and even makes money from it.
