Eric Clapton / Stevie Winwood @ The Hollywood Bowl – 41 Years Later

Last night, I had a chance to see two great musical legends join forces at the Hollywood Bowl.

While Eric Clapton is certainly more commercially well known than Stevie Winwood, the show actually turned out to be more of a Winwood show, with Clapton as the supporting act.

I don’t mean “supporting’ in any type of demeaning way.

Clapton’s blues riffs held the band together. Winwood’s going back and forth between piano and guitar brought the melodies together. I also forgot what a beautiful and wonderful tone of voice Winwood had, again supported by Clapton’s wispy vocals.

Let’s not forget that Clapton & Winwood were officially in a band together – Blind Faith – , which formed in 1968 after Cream broke up.

41 years later, there they were again – in force and better than ever.
