Editorial Calendars Require the Right Lead Times

It may be snowing in your back yard in mid-February, but here at The Ranch, we’re already working on and pitching June and July editorial calendars for monthly publications.

Here is a great example of the July issue of Business Communications Review editorial calendar, which they send to us five months in advance:

When pitching editorial calendars, make sure you know what the lead times are just to be considered for coverage.  And don’t forget:  just because your pitch or absract does not get accepted for that issue, it does not mean they were not interested.

Stay on the editorial staff’s radar by closely monitoring their editorial calendars and pitching tightly editorially focused story ideas that are non-commercial in nature. 

Your job is to help educate- and not sell to their readership.
