Editorial calendars are one of the most effective ways for you to seek out media coverage. Most publications list what they will be writing about over the coming year. We recently had one of our clients featured in a major government technology publication in the September ’04 issue of the magazine. We we were only successful because we caught wind of this in February. Yes, it took 7 hard months of lead time and advance work, but we wound up getting this huge feature that showcased one of their customers and how they were applying the company’s technology. Now they can reprint the story and send it to prospective customers.
Now is the time to start looking at January – March ’05 editorial calendars. Contact the publications in your space and find out what they plan to be writing about. This is a great way for you to be a resource to the editorial staff and get coverage for your company.
