Corpus Christi : Pocket Wireless In July
Pocket Communications – “Pocket” today announced that it is expanding new wireless coverage in the metro Corpus Christi region. The launch takes place in conjunction with a new branding and marketing campaign themed “Truth in Wireless,” as the company re-positions itself as a viable and affordable alternative in wireless services. At launch, Pocket will open 11 company stores and will have distribution at H.E.B., selected Stripes stores, and an initial 5 independent dealers in the Corpus Christi area.
“We are pleased to expand our reach into the remainder of South Texas by launching the Corpus Christi and coastal bend area,” stated Pocket President and CEO, Paul Posner. “We hope that consumers, families and small businesses looking for affordable, reliable wireless service with contiguous coverage, will take Pocket’s challenge to lower their cost of living with wireless savings up to 2/3rds. With the addition of Corpus Christi connecting to our existing network in San Antonio, Harlingen, McAllen and Laredo, Pocket offers great quality, great value and has South Texas covered far better than our competition.”
New “Truth in Wireless” Campaign Coincides with New Service and Product Offerings
In conjunction with the Corpus Christi launch, Pocket has debuted its new “Truth in Wireless” advertising campaign, featuring The Truth Crew, three youthful, highly skeptical roommates conducting their own reality TV-style investigation to verify that Pocket really offers affordable pricing, quality service with roaming options and cool, smart phones. The campaign encompasses broadcast, print, outdoor and radio ads, and will be expanded with live events this summer throughout South Texas. One of the new TV spots features the real CEO of Pocket, Paul Posner, hooked up to a lie detector machine and honestly answering The Truth Crew’s questions as to whether Pocket’s low-priced, unlimited offers are too good to be true.
The company has also announced a new series of service and product offerings providing new roaming options, a new family plan (4 phones with unlimited services starting at $100 per month), and new multi-function smart phones with QWERTY keyboards, cameras, music players, and more (such as the Motorola Hint).
Pocket has hired local wireless veteran Steve Freeman as its Area Director responsible for sales, service and distribution. Steve comes to Pocket from ClearWire where he was the former General Manager for ClearWire. Prior to ClearWire, Steve spent 20 years with Nextel Partners and Cellular One.
In related news, Pocket has also recently hired industry veteran, Jim McDonald, as its Chief Marketing Officer who is directing the re-branding initiative for the company. McDonald has headed major branding and marketing campaigns for Sprint, AT&T, Bally’s, Ford, Chevron, and RadioShack, and has an extensive background at major ad agencies.
