Berlin-based VC firm, XLHEALTH, looking to connect with Israel’s Digital Health startup ecosystem

Min-Sung Sean Kim and I have crossed paths in Berlin and Tel Aviv on multiple times. In his role as Partner with Berlin-based XLHEALTH, he’s on the lookout for Israeli-based Digital Health startups.   In the last year, they have looked at over 1,700 startups, and invested in five. As a rule, they invest anywhere between €500,000 to €5,000,000. Beyond the investment they make, XLHEALTH can bring you access to more than 400,000 clinics, GPs and pharmacists throughout Europe. Min-Sung is excited about Israeli chutzbah, the programs and initial funding from the OCS (Office of the Chief Scientist) and good old-fashioned Israeli hustle. If you have something that should be on Min-Sung’s radar, he prefers warm introductions; and you can also reach out to:...

OurCrowd launches global seed stage Fund – OurCrowd First

#AirMedved – AKA Jon Medved keeps rocking and taking OurCrowd to new heights with today’s announcement of the launch of OurCrowd First, a specialized $10M global early stage fund focusing on seed and Pre-A startups. With its OurCrowd First fund, OurCrowd will leverage its established infrastructure to bring equity crowdfunding to approximately 20+ seed-stage companies providing OurCrowd investors even earlier access to promising opportunities. With an investment minimum of $50k participation for accredited investors, OurCrowd First is further democratizing the world of seed stage investment funds, since most other funds require million dollar minimum investments. “We are proud to be launching our entry into the funds market with the OurCrowd First seed fund,” said Jon Medved, OurCrowd’s founder and CEO. “Our investors have asked for more access to earlier stage deals, which have been hard to do until now on OurCrowd, given the rapid growth of our platform and our average deal sizes of millions of dollars. OurCrowd First will cover the earliest stages of the startup funding journey providing up to $500,000 for a select group of companies.” OurCrowd First will be managed by General Partners Eduardo Shovaland Yori Nelken, who both come with highly successful track records in early-stage company-building and investment. Shoval has over 25 years of experience in high tech management and as an entrepreneur, co-founding seven tech companies with five successful exits – four of them with valuations in excess of $400M and total revenues of billions of dollars. Nelken has over 18 years of leadership experience bringing startups from concept to exit, including Banter, TimeBridge, and Local Sciences. “OurCrowd First came about following numerous requests...

Arabrenuer Helps Accelerate the Next Great Startup Economy. New Fund Event to Be Held on November 5 in Ramallah.

Back in July I visited my friend Hanan Khaldi who told me that she was leaving PITA – The Palestine IT Association of Companies, to go to a new gig.   At the time, Hanan could share anything with what would be next in her life. I get to work with a lot of very smart and nice people in the tech and startup world, and I figured that wherever she was going to, and whoever managed to get her as a team member, Hanan was going to be joining a pretty amazing team. Fast forward to October, where I crossed paths with Abdul Malik Al Jaber, who is the Chairman of MENA Apps and one of the founders of Arabreneur.  Abdul has a modest vision of creating 100 million new jobs through the startup economy of the Arab world. Listen and watch to what Abdul has to say. It’s in the later when you watch, you can see his passion and desire to transform the Arab region’s startup economy of the world. The growth is there. The rate of acceleration and transition not only to the Internet, but the social / mobile web is the fastest growing in the world. On November 5, Arabreneur has its first event in Palestine to introduce their new startup fund in Ramallah. If you are anywhere in the region in early November, you’d be well advised to attend this event, and see what’s bubbling up in this region of the world. New Equity-Based Crowdfunding Platform, OurCrowd, Lets You Invest In Israel’s “Startup Nation.”

Jon Medved is on to his next big thing:  OurCrowd. Back in early October, I had a chance to catch up with Jon in Israel where he shared his insights on  a great way to invest in Startup Nation if you are an accredited investor. OurCrowd is an equity-based crowdfunding platform, created for accredited investors to invest in Israeli startups. The idea is that Jon and his team vet the startups, bring you deal flow that have gone through a due-diligence process, and pre-negotiated term sheets.   OurCrowd intends to offer one new deal per week, giving thousands of potential (qualified ) investors from around the world the chance to take part in this new approach to investing.  ...

Returning “Home” To Mexico City; Office Hours at @mexicanvc

I am spending the next 6 days in Mexico City, holding office hours, and being part of the Sales for B2B Startups event on Friday that is sponsored by MexicanVC. Returning to Mexico City is very special to me.  I spent much of my childhood here, going back and forth every summer. That’s my parents on the bottom right, along with my paternal grandmother and grandfather, my maternal grandfather and the other person, I must confess, I have no clue who she is. Long story short:  my mother’s family had to leave Strasbourg, France during WWII due to the fact that Hitler was not a big fan of our people.  They bounced around to Trinidad, Havana, and wound up in Mexico City, where the family thrived. I spent every summer here as a child, including a year long stint for the 1st grade.  For 11 years of my life, (from 1953 to 1964) Mexico City was very much part of my DNA. While I have been here a couple of times being a tourist, I’m here for 3 days holding office hours, discovering new companies,  helping them think about their story and narrative in the context of building a global brand, and spending 3 additional days playing tourist. It’s amazing to come back “home,” where the sites, sounds, smells, and so many things from my summers come back to life. A special thank you to Paulina Arreola who took care of getting me here.
