Berlin-based VC firm, XLHEALTH, looking to connect with Israel’s Digital Health startup ecosystem

Min-Sung Sean Kim and I have crossed paths in Berlin and Tel Aviv on multiple times. In his role as Partner with Berlin-based XLHEALTH, he’s on the lookout for Israeli-based Digital Health startups.   In the last year, they have looked at over 1,700 startups, and invested in five. As a rule, they invest anywhere between €500,000 to €5,000,000. Beyond the investment they make, XLHEALTH can bring you access to more than 400,000 clinics, GPs and pharmacists throughout Europe. Min-Sung is excited about Israeli chutzbah, the programs and initial funding from the OCS (Office of the Chief Scientist) and good old-fashioned Israeli hustle. If you have something that should be on Min-Sung’s radar, he prefers warm introductions; and you can also reach out to:...

Hub Etzion expands Greater Jerusalem’s options as place to work, build & create

Aout 15 miles outside of Jerusalem, Rachel Moore and Amy Gottlieb Shuter are building out a way cool hub in Gush Etzion. They represent entrepreneurs who have families, need a place to work, be close to home, yet have access to the big city of Jerusalem when they needed to be there. The building they are in is state of the art. I’ve been there for a sneak preview. They are located in what is basically the most important town in biblical history, no matter what you do or don’t believe in. They are down the road a piece from Bethlehem, and a short bus ride from the Nation’s Capital, Jerusalem. They are part of the greater Made in Jerusalem community and you’ve got some great service providers and startups already camping out in the initial phases of the build out. Help Support Their Indiegogo Campaign They’ve just launched a new Indiegogo campaign to help support the final build out of the project. Talk about something of biblical proportions… I hope you will join me in bringing this initiative to fruition....

Israel’s Next Unicorn Economy: The Arab/Israeli Startup Sector

These are the faces, hearts and souls of what I call the Unicorn Economy of Israel. I shot these photos at recent startup event in Nazareth that took place at the Nazareth Business Incubator Center, where Fadi Swidan runs multiple accelerator programs to help the region’s startup community succeed. I am sponosred by The Rackspace Startups Program in Israel. My mission is to #BeHelpful I think we are too stuck in the glamour of unicorn companies; ones that have a valuation of $1 billion or more. WAZE getting acquired by Google is a good example of this. As sexy as unicorn companies might sound, I think they set a series of false expectations, and give an entrepreneur-to-be all the wrong reasons to start a new company. Maybe we should be paying more attention to what’s going on up north and see where we can not just focus on one magical company that hits the big time, but looking at an entire regional economy. Go North to Nazareth Go North — Come and Discover Nazareth The more time I spend in Nazareth, the more I see and meet some incredibly amazing startups. The entrepreneurs I meet are well educated. Many are in their late 20s and early 30s, and about 50% are women, something I don’t see as much in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem. They are graduates of Technion, Tel Aviv University, and Hebrew Universtiy in Jerusalem. Many have master’s degrees, and some are Ph.D. candidates or have completed their degrees. They are hungry. They have a desire to succeed. Many I meet with share with me a vision to create a...

Scaled For Global Growth: Five Take-Aways From the OurCrowd #OCGlobal Summit / Jerusalem

Jon Medved has his eyes and ears on The World. During Tuesday’s OurCrowd Global Investor Summit in Jerusalem, some 700 attendees from all over the came to connect with each other, engage with the OurCrowd portfolio companies, and hear inspirational messages from the likes of Jerusalem Mayor, Nir Barkat and Retired Israel Defense Forces Brigadier General, Danny Gold, the creator of the Iron Dome. Setting the tone for this event are some pretty compelling facts: The OurCrowd Global Summit represented 35 countries (including the Great State of Texas) $80 Million has already been invested in OurCrowd companies. 54 companies have now been funded on the OurCrowd Platform This year, OurCrowd invested more money in Israel than any other VC firm in Israel   OurCrowd CEO and founder, Jon Medved shares his concluding remarks at the OurCrowd Global Investor Summit. Throughout the day, I attended the talks, met with OurCrowd team members, and paid special attention to the energy and love that was taking place in lower level lobby areas of the Inbal Hotel, where the Summit was held. If there was one overarching message to the summit, it was the fact that OurCrowd is getting ready to scale globally. Nathan Cher – OurCrowd Partner – based in Australia. I met investors from all over the world, including OurCrowd Partner, Nathan Cher, who lives in the land down under, Australia. Nathan, who lives a mere 12,000 miles away from Jerusalem, has a network of companies, qualified investors, potential business partners, distributors, integrators, members of the press who are ready to step up, help, and be of value to OurCrowd companies. He can bring new startups into the...
