How @PitchEngine Helps You Pitch Your Startup. My Interview with @JasonKintzler during #SmallTown2012

During SmallTown2012, I connected with Jason Kintzler, CEO and Founder of PitchEngine,  a content creation platform that is helping more 45,000 brands connect provide news and information directly to customers and fans.  Jason was speaking at the conference, not to pitch his service, but to share his story of the fact that he’s build an online business with 40,000 + customers from his world headquarters in a town of 7,000 people – Lander, Wyoming. How To Pitch I am still a big believer in traditional press releases and yes, and when appropriate, I still recommend using traditional wire services like BusinessWire.   I am not here to advocate replacing PitchEngine with what might be working for you, but expanding your reach and trying PitchEngine’s story telling platform. The New American Startup During #SmallTown2012, Jason shared his story turning down $9,000,000 for a buy-out offer and his new book,  “The New American Startup.”  He did not want to move, did not want to either make employees leave where they live, or be laid off when the company was going to have to relocate. The Need for Sustained Story Telling Be it PitchEngine, your startup’s blog, the use of a wire service, or other platforms from Facebook to Twitter to YouTube or Instagram, the big thing to keep in mind is that if you are going to go down the path of story telling, make sure you define your voice, and have a method in place where you can not only engage, but sustain this process. As you start to consider communications strategies for 2013, make PitchEngine part of your digital pitching...

A New and Better Way To Create An Online Press Kit: Storyboard.me

Startups, Kickstarter companies, boutique brands, filmmakers, bands, architects, restaurants, etc., and people who are in their own right, a brand:  Storyboard.me is for you. Every Company is Really A Media Company Yup, it’s true:  every company is really a media company.  And if you don’t have an internal PR or Marcom person on your team, or if you don’t have a budget to retain a PR firm or ad agency on an on-going basis, you need a way to be discovered by the media, maintain a repository of  your brand’s digital assets, and be easily responsive to media opportunities when your pitches work. Meet Ohad Ron and Nati Ohayon from Storyboard.me.  They’ve developed a super easy to use – and free platform for building your own online press kit.  I created my own Storyboard in about 20 minutes and it’s a very straightforward process.  If you need some help in doing your deployment, they’ll lend you a hand in making your Storyboard awesome,  at no charge. I would like to see every accelerator, VC firm, and Startup Community Worldwide To Get Their Company’s Press Kits on Storyboard. It helps the brands, helps the media and bloggers who need digital assets and cover companies, big ideas and creative initiatives in all walks of life, all over the world. Highly Recommended.  ...

Is Your Media Supply Chain Aligned?

This post was inspired by a friend of mine who asked me if I could help him build a list of journalists he could reach out to and pitch a story idea to. I politely explained to him that just making a list isn’t going to cut it any more than just having a few great contacts would work with and pitch. You have to think of your potential "list" of bloggers, analysts and journalists as a supply chain.  As with the process of building anything – be it a product, a service or just the germ of an idea, you need to have your supply chain in line. I will be writing further on this concept later in the month. You may download the illustration above here: Download...

Using FaceBook for Speedier Email and Messaging

Jeff Pulver recently had a post in his blog where he said that if you were trying to reach him, do so by FaceBook. FaceBook? Yes, send Jeff an email through FaceBook. I am now finding myself doing the same.  I did not "get it" until I realized that in my small world that I travel in, its easier to communicate with very specific people I want to reach if I do so via FaceBook than through traditional email. Look for me on FaceBook and send me an email.  Just give it a try…. Photo by Alan Weinkrantz shot in NYC – (c)...
