#BookReview – “Team Geek” Investigates the Human Side of Software Development

Being surrounded by developers at my office at Geekdom or TechLoft, I observe a lot of human interaction, behavior and most of all, teamwork dynamics taking place.

Team Geek:  A Software Developer’s Guide to Working Well With Others

Authors Brian W. Fitzpatrick and Ben Collins-Sussman have written a concise and easy to read book, Team Geek, which serves as a reminder that teams are comprised of – yes, humans who have personalities, egos, moods, good days and not so good days.

The book operates on the premise that “….people are basically one giant pile of intermittent bugs…”

Team Geek’s narrative follows themes in the form of a series of essays with titles such as “The Myth of the Genius Programmer,”  “Building an Awesome Team Culture,” and “Users Are People Too.”

Team Geek is a great read, and a practical one at that.  It’s also an opportunity to help refine your startup’s story, pitches to the media, and the brand’s voice you are trying to acheive in your collective evolution.

Make Team Geek a group read.  Buy it here on Amazon.
